Hello, everyone!
We are Seoul Mate,
a college student tourism volunteer club that provides free tours to foreigners.
Have you ever heard of the sentence that "When you meet SEOUL, SEOULMATE."?
It's a slogan expressing our club.
We are trying to let foreigners know the hidden charm of Seoul.
We offer a wide variety of tour courses.
I would like to explain in detail one of them, the War memorial of Korea Tour. :)
If you sign up for this tour,
you can learn more about the Korean War fought by South and North Korea.
You can also see what happened to the division after the war.
The estimated time of the tour is about 3 hours, and admission is free.
Meeting spot is exit 12 of Samgakji Station on Line 6.
Before entering the War Memorial, you will be able to see this symbolic sculpture.
These two are brothers and enemies.
It is based on the true story of an older brother, a Korean military officer,
and his younger brother, who was a Korean People's Army,
who met dramatically on the battlefield.
This is the War Memorial.
The Korean War broke out on June 25, 1950,
due to ideological confrontation between South and North Korea.
As a result of the war,
Korea is now the only divided nation in the world.
If you enter the exhibition hall
and listen to the explanations of the members of Seoul Mate,
you will know the background and process of the war, the results,
and the current situation on the Korean Peninsula
I think you will be better to understand
if you learn about the Korean War before going there.
There are many Korean movies based on the Korean War,
so I would like to introduce them.
If you are interested in a war memorial tour, I recommend you watching these movies.
태극기 휘날리며 ( flying the national flag )
Do you remember the brother symbol that I mentioned earlier?
It's a movie based on the story of the brothers.
The movie was released in 2004, and the story is perfect,
so it is very famous that more than 10 million people in Korea have seen this movie.
The sad history shows the friendship between the two brothers
and all the scenes that appear briefly until the terrible times are impressive.
2. 인천상륙작전 (Incheon Ladning Operation)
This movie was released in 2016.
The story is about the Incheon Landing Operation led by General Douglas MacArthur, the commander of the United Nations Command, to South Korea, which fell to Seoul in three days due to North Korea's surprise Invasion from North Korea and deprived the entire Korean Peninsula except the Nakdonggang River in a month. This movie was also made based on a real story.
3. 웰컴투 동막골 (Welcome to Dongmakgol)
The background is Dongmakgol,
a mountain village, and the residents of Dongmakgol warmly welcome all the North Korean, South Korean, and U.N. troops who came to the village without knowing that the war had broken out.
The humanistic scenes that appear even in the terrible situation of war touched the hearts of viewers a lot.
4. 포화 속으로 ( Into the fire )
It was released in 2010
and is a reconstruction of the story
of 71 schoolboys who fought at Pohang Girls' Middle School on Aug. 11, 1950.
Based on the background of the war, the film was recognized as a high-quality work in the Korean film industry for its actors' acting and director's directing.
5. 고지전 ( The front line )
It was released in 2011 and is a film depicting the battle that took place during ceasefire negotiations in the central part of the Korean Peninsula in the final stages of the war.
This is also based on a real story.
It will help you understand the atmosphere of the times while watching a movie by dealing with the appearance of war.
6. 국제시장 (International market)
It was released in 2014, and it ranked fourth in history among domestic films.
It is based on a touching real story, and more than 14 million people watched it when it was released in theaters.
It is a movie that shows the story of a father of our time who lived through the turbulent times from the Korean War in the 1950s to the present, and a father who lived firmly for his family only.
If you go on a war memorial tour and watch these movies,
you will be able to understand and learn more about the Korean War more accurately.
After the explanation of the war memorial by the members of Seoul Mate,
