Hello, everyone!
We are Seoul Mate,
a college student tourism volunteer club that provides free tours to foreigners.
Have you ever heard of the sentence that "When you meet SEOUL, SEOULMATE."?
It's a slogan expressing our club,
We are trying to let foreigners know the hidden charm of Seoul.
We offer a wide variety of tour courses,
I would like to explain in detail on of them,
Jamsil course (Date at Seoul, Now and Then) :)
Through this tour, you can experience both Baekje, Seoul's oldest history,
and the latest Lotte World Tower in Jamsil.
The characteristic of this tour is
that you can see both the past and the present at the same time.
The estimated time of the tour is about 4 hours,
and admission fee is free.
But, you have to pay for transportation.
Also, if you'd like to have dinner together,
you should prepare for money to have dinner.
First, we will meet at 3 o'clock at exit 2 of Hansung Baekje Station.
And we will move to the Hansung Baekje Museum.
You will be able to study there while looking at actual historical relics and records.
I think it will be easier to understand
if you study about Baekje through this post before going to the museum.
So, I will start briefly explaining about Baekje from now on!
Baekje's agricultural and iron culture developed around the Han River,
and it was easy to accept Chinese culture through the sea.
Baekje grew quickly based on these geographical and cultural advantages.
Also, they recognized the importance of astronomical phenomena and considered astronomical observation important. They developed this and linked the king's authority to heaven.
In addition, they actively exchanged cultures by finding transportation routes to Japan. Representatively, we can prove this more accurately through the Chiljido.
The Chiljido was made during Geun Chogo King. He gave this to the Japnese king, is a 75-cm spear-shaped sword with 61 characters engraved in gold.
This was used a ritual tool, not a weapon.
There are historical records that Baekje's culture had a great influence on the formation of Japanese culture.
Also, the criminal law of Baekje was strict. It is said that the thief paid twice the price of the stolen goods and sent them to exile, and those who rebelled, lost the war, or killed immediately executed the death penalty of decapitation.
Lastly, Baekje had various tomb forms depending on the period.
During the Hanseong period, stone mound tombs
similar to those of Goguryeo were discovered (second picture).
Representatively, you can see this in Seokchon-dong, Seoul.
In Woongjin's era, cave-style stone tombs (third picture) were popular.
The tombs of the kings and queens of this time were made like this.
It is characterized by not being flashy for its large size.
There were also brick tombs (first picture) made with Chinese influence!
How is it? Are you more curious about Baekje?
If you go to the Baekje Museum,
guides will tell you more detailed and exciting history stories.
I am sure that it will be a valuable time to study Korean history.
The next course of the Baekje Museum is Lotte World Tower.
With 123 stories above ground and 555 meters high, it is the tallest building in Korea, the fifth tallest building in the world, and the tallest building in the OECD as of 2023. Since there is an observatory where anyone can freely come in and out if they pay,
it is a landmark representing Korea,
so it is a place where not only foreign tourists but also many Koreans visit.
The last course is Seokchon Lake.
It is about 5m deep, which is quite deep for a lake in the city.
There's a Lotte World amusement park nearby,
so if you walk along the trail, you'll be able to see the rides and hear people screaming.
Seokchon Lake is especially beautiful in spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
I personally recommend going here by applying for our Jamsil tour
during the cherry blossom season :)
